One
of the most important and successful of the association’s professional
activities is the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified
Information Security Manager programs. Association chapters have a responsibility
and a vested interest in supporting CISA/CISM-related activities.
The CISA/CISM coordinator is the source of promotion and information
on the CISA/CISM programs for the members of the chapter and for others
who are interested in the program. The CISA/CISM coordinator must become
knowledgeable with the CISA/CISM programs in order to answer questions
or refer people to the proper source.
Major responsibilities:
1) Knows and understands the CISA/CISM programs and its policies.
a) Maintains thorough understanding of material covered in the CISA/CISM
Coordinator’s Handbook. Copies of this book are sent annually
by ISACA’s certification department.
b) Encourages questions about CISA/CISM program at each chapter meeting.
c) Contacts ISACA certification department at the international headquarters
when detailed answers to questions are required.
2) Assists candidates in preparing for the CISA/CISM examination and helps
administer the exam.
a) Ensures a supply of exam registration materials are available at
each chapter meeting.
b) Assesses need for formal CISA/CISM review course.
c) Acts as, or appoints, a CISA/CISM review course coordinator/instructor.
d) Maintains a library of CISA/CISM exam preparation materials, if the
chapter so chooses.
e) Provides logistic support to CISA/CISM examination candidates (i.e.,
maps of exam site location).
3) Recognizes members that pass the CISA/CISM examination and/or obtain CISA/CISM
certification at a chapter meeting.
a) Assists members who have passed CISA/CISM exam with application for
certification.
b) Orders CISA/CISM certification pins for newly certified CISA/CISMs and presents
pins at chapter meeting.
c) Delivers recognition information to newsletter editor for inclusion
in chapter newsletter.
4) Promotes CISA/CISM Continuing Education Policy.
a) Works with education and/or programs committee(s) to ensure programs
and seminars meet CISA/CISM requirements.
b) Ensures attendance at educational activities is properly recorded
and retained in accordance with the Continuing Education Policy.
c) Works with education and/or programs committee(s) to obtain approval
from local board of education for CPA continuing professional education
(CPE) credits.
i) Explains policy to newly certified and continuing CISA/CISMs, as needed.
ii) Works with chapter president and membership director/committee
to promote CPE credits as a benefit of becoming an officer.
d) Ensures letters or certificates are issued for educational offerings/opportunities.
See section that follows regarding necessary information on such letters
or certificates and on calculating CPE hours.
5) Publicizes the CISA program within and outside chapter.
a) Publishes articles regularly about the CISA/CISM program in the chapter
newsletter, and, where possible, in local publications and college/university
newspapers/newsletters.
b) Identifies and recommends chapter members and other local professionals
for CISA/CISM program support tasks locally and internationally. This includes
publishing information regarding the CISA/CISM Item Writer program in newsletters
and identifying potential item writer candidates.
c) Presents the CISA/CISM program to other (non-ISACA) local organizations,
via newsletter or meeting presentation.
d) Works with publicity director/committee to issue a press release
to local media announcing the CISA/CISM program and exam.
Reporting Responsibilities:
The CISA/CISM coordinator reports to the president and is responsible to
the chapter board and chapter membership.
